Character Playstyles Explained

Gun Man — The All-Rounder

The default character and the benchmark for balance. His pistol fires steadily in the direction of the nearest enemy, and his double jump gives reliable vertical mobility. Best for: New players and anyone who wants consistency. Build focus: Damage, fire rate, projectile count.

Blade Dancer — The Melee Hurricane

Her spinning blade aura deals continuous damage to everything nearby, and her dash grants invincibility frames. She excels at diving into enemy packs and emerging unscathed. Best for: Aggressive players who like being in the thick of combat. Build focus: Move speed, area size, cooldown reduction.

Fire Mage — The Crowd Controller

Fireballs explode on impact, dealing splash damage and leaving burning ground. Her float jump lets her hover briefly to aim. Best for: Players who like controlling space. Build focus: Burn duration, explosion radius, spell power.

Berserker — The Unstoppable Force

High health pool and life steal on every hit make him the most forgiving character. His charge run builds momentum for bonus damage. Best for: Beginners and face-tank playstyle. Build focus: Max health, life steal, attack speed.

Shadow Runner — The Precision Assassin

Vanish Step turns her invisible briefly; attacks from stealth deal critical damage. High risk, high reward. Best for: Experienced players with good positioning. Build focus: Crit chance, crit damage, cooldown reduction.

Pro Tips & Common Mistakes

Pro Tips

  • Try every character once — you might surprise yourself
  • Match character to arena: melee in tight maps, ranged in open ones
  • Level up a character's mastery for permanent small bonuses
  • Blade Dancer's dash i-frames can pass through boss attacks
  • Berserker's charge deals more damage the longer you run

Avoid These Mistakes

  • Playing Shadow Runner before learning enemy patterns
  • Ignoring character-specific synergies in upgrades
  • Using Jester for serious progression runs
  • Forgetting that Ice Warden's freeze needs damage to finish kills
  • Unlocking characters out of order (wastes bones)

// TOWN CRIER — FAQ

Can I change characters mid-run?
No. You select your character at the start of each run and keep them for the entire run. Choose wisely based on the arena and your current goals.
Do characters have different stats?
Yes. Each character has unique base stats for health, speed, damage and starting weapon. The character screen shows all stats before you select.
What does character mastery do?
As you play a character, you earn mastery XP. Each mastery level grants a small permanent bonus to that character, such as +1% damage or +5 max health.
