Enemy Categories

Enemies in Blood Dungeon fall into distinct behavioral categories. Understanding these categories helps you prioritize targets and kite effectively.

RunnersFast movement, charge attacksMediumKite in circles, AOE
ShootersStand still, fire projectilesHighPrioritize kills, pierce through

Notable enemies to watch for

  • Cultist Shooters — These stationary enemies fire spread shots that can fill the screen. Always kill them first. They appear from Wave 6 onward.
  • Bat Swarms — Fast flyers that come in groups of 8-12. They don't do much damage individually but overwhelm you with numbers. AOE charms are essential.
  • Stone Golems — Tanks with 5x normal HP. They move slowly but one hit takes 2+ hearts. Burn and poison DoT effects work best.
  • Exploding Zombies — Run at you and explode on death or contact. Keep your distance and kill them before they reach you. Fireworks can chain their explosions.
  • Wraiths — Phase through walls and teleport behind you. They ignore terrain, so camping spots don't work against them. Keep moving.

Boss Fight Strategies

Bosses appear every 5 waves (Wave 5, 10, 15, etc.). Each boss has a unique moveset and requires a specific approach. Here are the confirmed bosses:

The Worm (Wave 5)

A giant pink segmented worm that burrows through the arena and emerges to attack. Its segments take damage independently — hitting the head deals bonus damage.

Attacks: Body slam (emerges and crashes down), segment spray (fires projectiles from each segment), burrow charge (dives and emerges under you).

Strategy: Keep moving horizontally to avoid burrow charges. When it emerges, unload damage into the head. The body segments block projectiles, so Piercing charms are very valuable. Don't stand directly below it when it's above ground.

The Necromancer (Wave 10)

A floating spellcaster that summons minions and casts area spells. It teleports around the arena and shields itself while summoning.

Attacks: Minion summon (spawns 3-5 grunts), death ball (slow-moving huge projectile), teleport slash (appears next to you and slashes).

Strategy: Clear minions quickly with AOE, then focus the boss during its vulnerable casting windows. The death ball is slow — walk around it. When it teleports, immediately move away from your current position.

The Forge Guardian (Wave 15, Foundry only)

A massive armored construct that manipulates lava and fire. Only appears in The Foundry arena.

Attacks: Lava wave (floods the ground floor), fire volley (8-way projectile spread), ground pound (shockwave).

Strategy: Stay on upper platforms during lava waves. The fire volley has gaps — dodge between projectiles. Ground pound can be jumped over. This boss is weak to ice damage (Ice Warden has a big advantage).

The Hive Queen (Wave 15, Hive only)

A giant insectoid that continuously spawns swarms and lays eggs. Only appears in The Hive arena.

Attacks: Swarm spawn (releases 10+ bats), egg lay (eggs hatch into runners), tail sweep (melee arc).

Strategy: Destroy eggs before they hatch. Use Fireworks or burn damage to clear swarms. The queen is stationary during egg-laying — that's your damage window. Don't get cornered by swarms in the tunnels.

General boss tips

Always save your best active items (if your character has one) for bosses. Bosses have predictable patterns — die once to learn them, then dominate on the next attempt. Bone Shop damage upgrades make boss fights significantly easier.

Threat Priority & Kiting

Not all enemies are equal. When the screen is full, follow this kill priority order:

  1. Elites — They buff nearby enemies and deal heavy damage. Kill on sight.
  2. Shooters — Their projectiles restrict your movement. Remove them to open up kiting routes.
  3. Exploders — If they reach you, the explosion can end your run. Keep them at range.
  4. Wraiths — They ignore terrain and teleport. Deal with them before they surround you.
  5. Flyers — They come from above and can't be blocked by terrain.
  6. Runners — Fast but fragile. They die to incidental AOE.
  7. Tanks — Slow and predictable. Let DoT handle them while you focus higher threats.
  8. Grunts — Lowest priority. They die to your weapon's passive fire.

Kiting fundamentals

Kiting means moving while your auto-weapon deals damage. The goal is to keep enemies grouped up (so AOE hits more targets) while never letting them touch you.

  • Circle kiting: Run in large circles around the arena. Enemies bunch up behind you, and your weapon fires backward into the pack.
  • Figure-8: In tighter arenas, run figure-8 patterns to avoid getting cornered while keeping enemies grouped.
  • Vertical reset: Climb a ladder to the top platform, let enemies path up, then drop down. This resets their positions and buys breathing room.
  • Chokepoint funnel: In arenas with narrow passages, position at one end so enemies must funnel through — your AOE clears them efficiently.

Pro Tips & Common Mistakes

Pro Tips

  • Shooters are always priority #1 in mixed waves
  • Fireworks charm creates chain reactions with exploders
  • Learn which enemies appear in which wave ranges
  • Use terrain to block grunt pathing while you kill shooters
  • Boss patterns are fixed — practice makes perfect

Avoid These Mistakes

  • Focusing grunts while shooters fill the screen
  • Standing still during boss attack telegraphs
  • Using Fireworks against Splitters (creates more enemies)
  • Forgetting that Wraiths ignore walls
  • Panic-dodging into enemy groups

// TOWN CRIER — FAQ

Do enemies scale with wave number?
Yes. Enemies gain health and damage every wave. By Wave 20, even basic grunts have significantly more HP. This is why damage upgrades are essential for deep runs.
Are some enemies immune to certain damage types?
Yes. Foundry enemies resist fire damage, Hive enemies resist poison, and some elite enemies have temporary damage immunity shields. Check enemy auras — a red shimmer means physical resistance, blue means magic resistance.
How do I tell which enemy is an Elite?
Elites have a colored aura (usually red or purple) around them and are slightly larger than normal enemies. They also have a health bar that appears when you damage them.
